IGFA World Records & Maine State Records Since 1984

Erik Callahan shown left with his 4.51 pound whiting or silver hake (Merluccius bilinearis) caught on August 8, 1995 while using a Bunny Clark specially designed boat rod (pictured left), a Penn 113H reel and a hook and sinker with a piece of Maine shrimp for bait. The whiting is one of the groundfish that appears to be coming back in greater numbers thanks to recent commercial fisheries regulations. This whiting is the second most recent International Game Fish Association (IGFA) "All Tackle" world record caught on the Bunny Clark. The picture on the right is a shot of eleven year old Allyson Fuehrer (ME) holding her Female Junior Angler Maine State white hake (Urophysis tenuis). This fish weighed 30 pounds 10.2 ounces and was caught during a full day trip on August 31, 2004.

Bunny Clark IGFA Junior Angler World Records

Note: On January 1, 1997, the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) launched a new world record category for young anglers called the Junior Anglers Record Program. The Program itself is divided into two categories by age with a male and female division in each category. The "Small Fry" division is dedicated to anglers through the age of 10 years old while the "Junior Angler" division is dedicated to anglers from age 11 through 16 years of age. Records under this program will be maintained by the IGFA and will be listed in their annual "World Record Game Fishes" publication. Note: Dawn Hersom's name appears below with the status of "DSQ" (disqualified). I left her name in there as she held the women's 50 pound test record with this same pollock from August 1986 until October 1990. She was 15 years old when she caught her world record. When the IGFA Junior Angler world record program was instituted in 1997, we submitted her confirmed application again as she met the age requirement. The application was denied as the feat happened before the Junior Angler program was initiated. To those who work at Bunny Clark, Corp., myself included, Dawn still qualifies, although not officially so we like to keep her name in. - Tim Tower

Note: The IGFA only recognizes 50 species of saltwater game fish for the Junior Anglers Record Program. Of those, only 8 species (flounder, halibut, cod, pollock, tuna, shark, bluefish and striped bass) are found in New England/Bunny Clark waters. At this time, the haddock, hake, goosefish, etc. are not accepted by the IGFA for Junior Angler recognition.

Bunny Clark Saltwater Maine State Junior Angler Records

Note: On January 1, 2000, the state of Maine launched the Junior Angler State Records Program. This program (separated into boy and girl categories) recognizes young anglers of sixteen years or younger who have landed the largest fish in the state of Maine. Virtually all saltwater species are accepted. Although adopted with a set of rules, it wasn't until January of 2003 that the regulations in this program were finalized. Of most interest were four items. First, in order to submit an application for acceptance, the fish has to be weighed on land on a certified and registered scale as all regular state records have to be. The fish can't be weighed on the boat as it can for an IGFA Junior Angler world record. Second, there is no time limit on a claim. For instance, if you can prove that your fifteen year old son landed a state record fish in 1952, it can become a state record. Third, a Junior Angler state record fish will be accepted if the fish is caught tangled in other lines as long as the tangled situation doesn't aid in the catching or landing of the fish. The IGFA will disqualify you for tangles with a world record claim. Fourth, you can lay the rod on the rail for support in landing a state record fish as long as you hook, fight and bring the fish to gaff without anyone (helping) touching the rod or equipment. The IGFA will disqualify you for laying the rod on the rail with a world record claim. Below is a table listing the status of our Bunny Clark Junior Angler Maine State record holders.
